WAYS TO TAKE PART

Three open calls, one for each way of joining the institute. Write to us with the form below and tell us which one.

The Traditional Music Lab is a ready-made module you add to a course you already teach. In four to six weeks your students map one living singing tradition in their own city: they interview a person who carries it, record with consent, and map the artists, teachers, places, communities, archives and money around it. Each map is published open and credited to your students, to you and to your university. The best students become VTA Fellows and mentor the next class.

CLASSES, CHOIRS & GROUPS

Join Music Diplomacy Week

For school and university classes, choirs and community groups anywhere in the Americas. Every semester we pair your group with a group in another country. Each group learns the other’s traditional song and, during the Week, sings it back online to the people it came from, while the person who carries the song answers back. Nothing travels farther than a song. Your pair’s story is published in the Gazette as a Singing Story.

WHAT TO WRITE US

Who your group is, where you are and how many singers you have
The languages you sing in and a traditional song from your community you could share
The semester you would like to join

ORGANIZATIONS

Send your news to the Gazette

For festivals, archives, universities, nonprofits, labels and artist groups working with traditional singing in the Americas. The Heritage Gazette is a weekly read of what moved in the field: festivals, archive releases, research, awards, losses and revivals, plus one item each week on music crossing borders. We read sources in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French.
